Despite its solid reputation, I found THE GOOD SOLDIER to be a disappointing novel. Although it had some good parts, this book was, for the most part, uninteresting. The characters were not well-developed, at least not developed enough so that the reader could relate to them. Ford attempts to explore the issue of love, lust, deception, and infidelity, but the plot is lacking in details, details that would have made the novel much more engaging.
