This was the first book by Graham Greene that I read, and I wasn't disappointed. It is a story of a Catholic priest in Mexico on the run from anti-religion revolutionary Mexican authorities. As a psychological thriller, it is captivating reading. Greene brilliantly describes the intense inner struggles of the "whisky priest," an alcoholic who is convinced of his own damnation due to mortal sin. Reading this novel encouraged me to read more stories by Greene, and I'm looking forward to soon reading one of his most famous works, THE QUIET AMERICAN.
