Carol Shields achieves a masterpiece in this work, the story of an ordinary girl who matures into an ordinary woman. When her mother dies during childbirth, Daisy goes to live with a neighbour. The book uses evocative language, rich descriptions, and depicts a vulnerable yet strong woman in her journey through life. Even though Daisy's life is quite ordinary, the book is not boring to read because the inner light of Daisy shines through from childhood memories to her deathbed. Shields is truly a master of words.
