1. See the Irish Literature for James Joyce, Bram Stoker, Jonathan Swift, Oscar Wilde, W.B. Yeats, George Bernard Shaw et al.
2. Thomas Carlyle was Scottish. He moved to London in 1834. Carlyle died in London in 1881, but according to his wishes, he was buried in Ecclefachan, Scotland, where he was born and where his parents laid.
3. Conrad was born in Ukraine. He was of Polish descent. He left Russia in early 1870s. In 1886 he became a British subject.
5. Lawrence Durrell was born in India and he died in France. He spent most of his life outside of England. He was educated in India until he reached age 11 and moved in 1935 to the island of Corfu. During World War II he served as press attaché to the British embassies in Cairo and Alexandria, and after the war he spent time in Yugoslavia, Rhodes, Cyprus, and the south of France.
6. American-English poet, playwright, literary critic and editor T.S. Eliot was born in Missouri, USA. However, he became a British subject in 1927 and he lived and died in London, England.
7. Novelist and Playwright Llewellyn is actually Welsh, but he is temporarily listed in here until a separate list for Welsh Literature is ready.
8. Murdoch was born in Dublin, Ireland. However, she spent most of her life in England. Please let me know if you believe she should be listed under Irish Literature.
9. Trinidadian writer of Indian descent, Naipaul has settled in England, however, travelled extensively.
10. Salman Rushdie is an Anglo-Indian author born in Bombay, India and educated in England. When we have a seperate list for Indian authors, I can be convinced to move him there. Make your objections now.

12. Author and poet Stevenson is Scottish, he is temporarily listed in here until a separate list for Scottish Literature is ready.
13. Dylan Thomas was Welsh. While on an exhausting American tour, he died in New York from an overdose of hard-liquor.
14. English-born novelist, short-story writer, lyricist and playwright Wodehouse settled in United States in 1944-45 (after the war) and later became a US citizen. He was knighted in 1975. Wodehouse has written about 100 books. Here you can find his complete bibliography.
