1. Joseph Brodsky was born in Leningrad (now Saint Peterburg). He was exiled from the Soviet Union in 1972. Thereafter, he lived in the United States and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1977.

2. Vladimir Nabokov was born in Russia. He left Russia in 1919, when he was 20 years of age. In 1945, he became a US citizen.
